I miss you in the small things,
The moments I dreamed about.
Like wearing you close to my heart,
Just like your sisters did.
I miss you in the small things,
The postpartum I imagined.
The postpartum I redefined with your diagnosis,
That I no longer get to have.
I miss you in the small things,
The moments in between,
When I think about what should have been,
And who you would have been.
I miss you in the small things,
The moments only I remember.
Your squeaky voice, your chicken wings,
The first “normal baby” things.
I miss you in the small things,
The moments that hurt the most.
Because the big things, people understand,
The small things….
most don’t.
